Preparing for Cambridge Contemporary Art. New Work in Progress.

The studio has been busy recently as I work towards an exhibition at Cambridge Contemporary Art, where I showed new work for the first time. I was really excited to be exhibiting with the gallery, particularly as it is somewhere I have admired for a long time.

Preparing for an exhibition always brings a particular focus to the studio. There is a sense of working towards something, while still allowing the forms to develop in their own time. The studio was full of pieces at different stages, and as always, I was trying to balance pushing scale while working within the limits of a small studio and a kiln that likes to set firm boundaries.

For now, the focus was on getting everything through the kiln safely, which, as always with ceramics, is never entirely predictable. There were already a few casualties along the way, a crack here, a piece lost there, the usual reminders that clay still has the final word!
